FAQ

What must I bring along for hospitalization?

Patients must bring along the following list of items for hospitalization at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital:

  1. A referral letter from your treating physician.
  2. Original copies of identification such as a Passport, relevant Identity Card, Birth Certificate (for patients below 15 years), Driver’s License, etc.
  3. Guarantee letter from insurance company or employer (applicable to international companies that have credit arrangements with our hospitals).
  4.  Previous medical reports e.g. X-Ray, Laboratory Reports, Blood Test Results, etc, if any.
  5.  A list of all medication and the dosage that you are presently taking if any. Outside medicines are not allowed, the routine medications will be administered by the hospital.
  6.  Any forms or letters concerning your payment which that were not submitted.
  7. To make your stay more comfortable, we encourage our patients to bring along their nightwear for any in-patient procedures.
  8. Clothes and comfortable footwear to wear. The hospital may provide a gown to wear for the patients during their stay.
  9. A mobile phone with a charger.
  10. Personal toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
  11. If you have any special requirements that you would like to discuss before your admission, please contact our International Relationship Manager and keep us informed well in advance.

The patients are also encouraged to bring some of their items such as spectacles, hearing aids, etc., but advised to refrain from bringing expensive jewellery, watches, large sums of cash, other such valuables, medications from home, outside food, fruits, and flowers. Please take care of your passport, visa and other such documents in your care. We advise you to come light and only with the most essential items to make your stay easy and hassle-free.

What must I expect during the hospitalization?

The time you spend in the hospital is a time of receiving treatment, of resting and recuperating. In most cases, the patients or even caregivers focus only on the first part and overlook the remaining two. Although a major part of the hospitalization stay will be towards treatment – which could be clinical, investigative and may involve a small procedure or major surgery – rest and recovery is also a vital aspect. The patient and caregivers must allow sufficient rest from everyday stress for the best treatment results.

Can the patients have a care-giver and receive visitors?

We always encourage patients to get a close relative or a family member or a friend along at all times for mental and emotional support for the patient. But when a patient is undergoing intensive care or critical procedure we highly discourage visitors for the patients’ benefit and faster recovery.

What is the expected outcome of hospitalization?

Completely healing a disease or a disorder is the final aim of any doctor and patient. Yet, in some cases, especially for major illnesses just a few days of stay at the hospital may not be able to accomplish that goal 100 percent. Hence, we assist patients to learn and understand the expected outcomes of hospitalization. Patients must understand that in most cases, the end of hospitalization is not certainly the end of the treatment cycle. Following visits may be necessary or you may be on medication.

Preparing for Surgery

Preparing for Surgery at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital Hyderabad

A surgical intervention is often necessitated to help a patient overcome sickness and resume normal activities. Surgeries could be emergency procedures or elective procedures. In case of the former, the situation allows for little preparation. However, in latter cases, it is advised that patients be well-informed and well-prepared to ensure improved results. Preparation of surgery ought to involve the following,

  • Detailed discussions with your doctors on the need for surgery.
  • Complete understanding of the procedure and outcome.
  • Undergoing relevant medical investigations for the surgery.
  • Seeking insurance approval and/or arrangement of funds.

Preparation for surgery also involves the mental readiness of a patient, and in some cases the consent and approval of the immediate family. Discussions with doctors, counsellors & staff aid this process of preparation.

FAQ

What should I expect when the operation is over?

Once the operation is over, you will be moved into the recovery area. This area is equipped to monitor patients after surgery.

Many patients feel groggy, confused, and chilly when they wake up after an operation. You may have muscle aches or a sore throat shortly after surgery. These problems should not last long. You can ask for medicine to relieve them. You will remain in the recovery room until you are stable.

You may be encouraged to get out of bed and walk around soon after your operation. You may feel tired and weak at first. The sooner you resume activity, the sooner your body’s functions can get back to normal.

How do I connect with the Patient Relations Cell?

Clinical staff and nurses are primarily responsible to take care of all the patients and we are confident that our medical staff will cater to all your concerns. However, if they are certain unresolved issues, you can speak to our Patient Relations Staff for the resolution of your queries which lies at the second level of escalation matrix

What can I do to help ensure my surgery will go smoothly?

If you smoke, try to stop smoking before your operation. General anaesthesia affects the normal function of your lungs. If you are under any medication, ask if you should keep taking it before or after the operation and brief your doctor with all your medications, including those that have been prescribed for you and those that are bought over-the-counter. If you have diabetes, controlling your glucose levels before surgery may improve healing. Follow a special diet before surgery if your health care provider suggests it.

What are the concerns that the Patient Relations Cell typically handles?

The following concerns are handled by the Patient Relations Cell:

  1. Concerns about your hospitalization.
  2. Questions on the Hospital policies.
