Arthroplasty

Arthroplasty surgery is an operative procedure in which the arthritic or damaged surfaces of the bone are removed and replaced with something better, called a prosthesis. The surgery performed to relieve pain and restore range of motion by realigning a dysfunctional joint. The goal of arthroplasty is to restore the function of the affected joint and relieve pain. We are one of the best hospitals for arthroplasty in Hyderabad.

At the beginning of surgery, anesthesia is administered to the patient. Then a small incision is made by the orthopedic surgeon at the joint to carefully remove the least quantity of bone to allow free motion. We have some of the best doctors for arthroplasty in Hyderabad.

To determine the extent of the injury, the surgeon will evaluate the joint itself and enquire about the level of mobility, the condition of the ligaments and muscles around the affected joint to help develop the most effective postoperative rehabilitation plan. Diagnostic testing will typically include:

  1. X-rays of the affected joint to determine loss of joint space
  2. CT, MRI, Bone densitometry tests
  3. Blood tests to rule out infection
  4. Before the surgery, standard preoperative blood and urine tests are performed
  5. Clotting tests are performed if the patient has a history of bleeding

Most patients enjoy an improved range of motion in the joint and relief from pain and will gain enhanced function. The risks of arthroplasty include an allergic reaction to anesthesia, post-operative infection, or the formation of blood clots that may cause pain and swelling near the surgery site. Dislocation of the joint may occur in the absence of physical activity.
