A referral letter from your treating physician.
Original copies of identification such as a Passport, relevant Identity Card, Birth Certificate (for patients below 15 years), Driver’s License, etc.
Guarantee letter from insurance company or employer (applicable to international companies that have credit arrangements with our hospitals).
Previous medical reports e.g. X-Ray, Laboratory Reports, Blood Test Results, etc, if any.

A mobile phone with a charger.
Personal toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
If you have any special requirements that you would like to discuss before your admission, please contact our International Relationship Manager and keep us informed well in advance.
The patients are also encouraged to bring some of their items such as spectacles, hearing aids, etc., but advised to refrain from bringing expensive jewellery, watches, large sums of cash, other such valuables, medications from home, outside food, fruits, and flowers. Please take care of your passport, visa and other such documents in your care. We advise you to come light and only with the most essential items to make your stay easy and hassle-free.
What must I expect during the hospitalization?
The time you spend in the hospital is a time of receiving treatment, of resting and recuperating. In most cases, the patients or even caregivers focus only on the first part and overlook the remaining two. Although a major part of the hospitalization stay will be towards treatment – which could be clinical, investigative and may involve a small procedure or major surgery – rest and recovery is also a vital aspect. The patient and caregivers must allow sufficient rest from everyday stress for the best treatment results.
Can the patients have a care-giver and receive visitors?
We always encourage patients to get a close relative or a family member or a friend along at all times for mental and emotional support for the patient. But when a patient is undergoing intensive care or critical procedure we highly discourage visitors for the patients’ benefit and faster recovery.
What is the expected outcome of hospitalization?
Completely healing a disease or a disorder is the final aim of any doctor and patient. Yet, in some cases, especially for major illnesses just a few days of stay at the hospital may not be able to accomplish that goal 100 percent. Hence, we assist patients to learn and understand the expected outcomes of hospitalization. Patients must understand that in most cases, the end of hospitalization is not certainly the end of the treatment cycle. Following visits may be necessary or you may be on medication.
Preparing for Surgery
For international patients, most of the surgeries are elective procedures giving them sufficient time to think and prepare. Surgical intervention is often required to assist a patient to overcome sickness and resume normal activities. We advise our international patients to plan them to have a comfortable stay. Preparation of surgery involves the following,
Detailed discussions on the need for surgery and outcome
Securing necessary travel documentation
Undergoing medical investigations before travel
Insurance approval and/or arrangement of funds for surgery
A patient should be prepared to undergo an elective surgery by having a precise discussion with doctors, counsellors, and staff to aid this process of preparation. Sometimes the consent and approval of the immediate family are also important.
Surgery Admission Steps
FAQs
Why is a surgery necessitated?
The need for surgical intervention differs from every case-to-case. However, in most cases the basic principle is that the condition requires excision, suturing, grafting, bypassing, and other such procedures – which constitute surgery. Doctors will solely opt for surgical intervention if it accelerates the recovery, improves the chances of recovery and helps the patient to have a better chance of overcoming the disease.
Who will perform the surgery?
You will have an out-and-out conversation on the need and process of the surgery with the surgeon operating the surgery. Every surgery will have a specialist surgeon who heads the operation, assisted by a team of trained nurses, paramedics, and other specialists. An anaesthetist will monitor your conscious levels and administer necessary pain medication.
What will happen on the day of surgery?
On the day of the surgery, a patient is moved to a preoperative area and prepped for surgery. This includes changing into sterile surgical robes, intubation (if necessary), and final investigations. Patients may be asked to avoid consuming food from midnight on the day of the surgery. Any other precautions will be informed well ahead of time.
Unexpected changes in the surgical schedule may happen sometimes. This may lead to a shift in your surgery timing on the day of surgery. Your family members, friends will be asked to wait in the surgical waiting room or the hospital lobby during your surgery. After being shifted in the operating room by the nurse, several monitors will be applied to monitor heart rate and rhythm. Three small sticky patches would be placed on your chest and an automatic blood pressure cuff will be placed on the arm.
Things to Remember Before Surgery:
Do not eat, drink (not even water) after midnight the day before your surgery. If you have been instructed to take important medications, take no more than two tablespoons of water and no later than two hours before surgery. If you eat or drink after midnight, your surgery may be delayed or will be cancelled.
Do not wear hairpins, watches, contact lenses or removable jewellery. If you wear a wig please remove.
You may be asked to remove dentures and other non-permanent items including undergarments before surgery.
If you are admitted to the hospital after your surgery, you may want to bring pyjamas or nightgown, slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, other personal toiletries, etc.
What kind of anesthetic will I be given?
On the nature of the surgery, the patient’s condition and the recovery options post-surgery, the pain-relievers and anaesthesia are decided, which will be informed to the patients and caregivers for their consent. General anaesthesia is preferred for critical surgeries while for localized procedures, local anaesthesia is preferred. For surgeries wherein, a larger area is operated then spinal anaesthesia will be given.
How long does it take to recover from surgery?
Typically, an overnight stay in the post-surgical intensive care allows a patient to recover enough from the surgery. With anaesthesia waning, the patient may experience mild grogginess, pain, etc. This is completely natural.
Following surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room where you will receive constant care by a trained nurse. Your vital signs will be regularly monitored along with any dressing that was applied after surgery. You may encounter dry mouth, sore throat, chills, and blurred vision. If you experience pain or discomfort in the area of your surgery, do not be scared it’s natural just ask for pain medication. Be sure to report your pain. Doctors will monitor the vitals and move the patient to intensive care, normal ward or room as required.
Your family members/friends should be in the waiting room before the end of your surgery time so that the surgeon can speak to them. If they need to go, it is best to do so at the beginning of your surgery to avoid missing the surgeon after your surgery. Your surgeon will let your caretaker know how you are doing and answer questions, letting them know whether you require hospitalization or whether you will be discharged home.
Going Home
Just so that you are healthy and free of all complications post-treatment, our team of experienced doctors will completely assess you to check if you are fit, at the time of discharge. The medical staff will provide a discharge list catering to the patient’s needs as well as a list of authorized documents as per the procedure performed.
We understand that being away from home and family, especially when you are unwell is challenging and you are keen to take the next flight home. Before recommending discharge, we will consider all factors in your ability to travel and give you a heads up. We also make sure that you have a safe environment to travel and a sterile one at home.
